THE NATIONAL - ABEL GUITAR TAB guitar 1: C F5 G strumming pattern is kind of sparse here, kind of follows the drum beat - go to 'Chord House' for chords. F5 is an F power chord, you could play F but i dont think they use that. guitar 2: -------- -------- -------- D----10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-12-12-12-12-12-12-12-12-12 -------- -------- changes to this -------------------------- -------10------10--------- --9-10----9-10----9-10-12- -------------------------- -------------------------- -------------------------- --------------------------------------------- ----------------10-------10-------10-------10 --9-10-12--9-10-----9-10-----9-10-----9-10--- --------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------------------10-------10-------10-------10 --9-10-12--9-10-12--9-10-12--9-10-12--9-10-----9-10-----9-10-----9-10--- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------ ------------------------------------ --9-10-12--9-10-12--9-10-12--9-10-12 ------------------------------------ ------------------------------------ ------------------------------------ now back to very first riff, guitar 1 strumming pattern gets faster and more regular during the second riff above and slows down again when guitar 2 goes back to the first one (watch the video if you need help you can pick up some stuff from there) Now the bridge - this is gonna take ages: guitar 1: --5--8---12--10--8---3--- --5--8---8---8---8---3--- --5--9---9---9---9---4--- --7--10--10--10--10--5--- --7--x---x---x---x---x--- --x--x---x---x---x---x--- second or third time around add a pinky on the last chord and play this, --5-- --3-- --4-- --5-- --x-- --x-- a note of caution, the above is how i play it as its a little easier to get around the board, i think they might be playing this: --8-- --8-- --9-- --x-- --10- --x-- with the changes as described above of course. Please remember this chord type with a string muted when i tab guitar two for the bridge as you can change those to this type also. They play the same to begin with and just change the final chord which is below Guitar 2: --7(9)-- --7----- --8----- --x----- --9----- --x----- note in brackets is just a finger you can add to help you with the changes. Remember, same as guitar 1 with this change at the end of the chord sequence. I think there is enough here to help you improvise your way thru, im sure there are mistakes and stuff ive missed but as i say improvise. Any questions just get back to me, this is the lazy version, im sure i could improve and try to make it a bit clearer, so i just hope you can make some sense of it. tony
